Saccharomyces Success!About 7 years ago, I had an ulceration in my lower colon (sigmoid) and was ultimately hospitalized for it hemmoraging. Mega doses of antibiotics, both oral and intravenous were used in treatment, without any confirmed diagnosis of bacterial infection. After 7 years of battling gastrointestinal issues, despite a closely adhered high fiber diet (35g daily), I had almost resigned myself to a life of symptomatic IBS/IBD and accepted being imprisoned to enduring countless trips to the bathroom each day. I researched and researched some more, and finally arrived at discovering what I believed was my culprit(s); iron overload and a completely devastated gut flora. I donated blood (twice) and began taking Jarrow Formulas Saccharomyces Boulardii, along with another high quality 14 strain probiotic. I'm happy to share that virtually all of my IBS symptoms (which can mimic irritable bowel syndrome to a T) have been largely reversed. While I'm not 100% positive if the iron dump (through my blood donation) is the reason, or if was the saccharomyces boulardii, or even both. I'm going to continue monitoring my serum iron levels and donate blood when they reach the upper end of normal measurements as well as continuing my probiotic regiment. If you are having unresolved issues which even remotely sound like mine, get your iron levels checked and give this probiotic a try. It's one of the most common modalities used by gastroenterologists to treat most all intestinal diseases and disorders. Good luck... and Happy Trails! 5One big disadvantage!I have had chronic diarrhea for decades. Multiple colonoscopies,biopsies-no Crohn's ,no Colitis. A Dr recommended this when I was on Keflex. Bingo! So to make my life more friendly-I have kept taking it! Only warning I have --the gas is the nastiest ,foulest smell ever! WOW I choke myself! Maybe I will try every other day so I do not destroy what is left of the ozone ! 4Go with Jarrows for your yeast probiotic.I've been taking yeast probiotics for a few yrs now. I used to just take regular ones, not knowing there were different kinds, etc. I thought they were like a one size fits all type probiotics. Then I got a horrible infection/ disease called c- diff from a powerful antibiotic I was taking. After spending hours researching natural remedies, etc and of course being on antibiotics for c-diff I came across florastor. It is expensive. YEAST PROBIOTICS ARE THE ONLY PROBIOTICS THAT CAN WITHSTAND ANTIBIOTICS. Besides writing a journal about yeast probiotics, I will tell you why I switched to Jarrows. I got cdiff this year 3 times in a row!! Awful suffering. Again after hours and days of researching alternative therapies I read about yeast plus DMOS. This helped me tremendously to heal.Jarrows is consistent, has the added DMOS, and is less expensive than florastor. Florastor is still a great probiotic. I just prefer Jarrows brand. 5This product saved my lifeI have been diagnosed with diverticulitis and have been put on very strong antibiotics several times. For the past year + I have been in severe belly pain. I could not poop right 1/4 the size it should have been & half the amount. I felt like I was going to die. To come to find out I was slowly. My Gastrologist sent me for test after test from lime disease to catscans,altra sound, upper GI, colonoscopy ect. ect. Thousand of dollars of testing. My Doctor only told me to take probiotics it helped for an hour or two but did not solve the problem. For over a year I could not eat any protein or dairy of any kind. I lived off of fruits, veg, crackers & chicken broth. even though I was losing weight my belly was bloating bigger & bigger. Since my Doctors could not find the problem, I started to do my own research on the effects of antibiotics. Then I stumbled across a study on the plant Boulardii. everything I read was hitting at home. This product has organisms that attach to the bowels and reproduce repairing the lining of the intestines. Doctors tell you antibiotics kill bacteria but they DO NOT tell you they destroy the organisms that make your intestines break down & digest protein. With out these organisms "you will" die. I have been taking this product for only fourteen days & I am feeling like a new person. I plan to stay the course of slowly building up to a thousand milligrams a day for 4 weeks then a regimen of one a day for three months. I THANK THE GOOD LORD FOR SHOWING ME THIS. "AMEN" Please if you have taken or your children have taken an antibiotic use anyone of the product that have Boulardii in it. it is a lot cheaper then going through what I went through. 5I really like this probioticI really like this probiotic. I recommended this to my daughter who has had severe constipation problems for years (not able to go for a week at a time) She has tried more fiber in the diet and everything imaginable. These pills helped her immediately. They are not a laxative but help the digestive tract and stomach. 5Cured My Yeast InfectionsCURED!! I have been trying to beat Candida for over 6 years after treating Lyme disease for years with antibiotics. SB finally did the trick BUT... not the traditional way. I had to do daily retention enemas for a few weeks to beat my chronic yeast issues. Anyone with mysteriously declining health and brain fog should read the books "Why Isn't My Brain Working" and "The Root Cause: Hashimoto's" which both give a good description of the uses of this product. 5Formula seems to be changedI have been purchasing this item for the last several years and it was a wonderful substitute for the Florastar. Suddenly within the last 3 orders that has changed, It no longer works. Oddly enough, I had some left over from a bottle I purchased last year and I took some of those, just to see if maybe it was just me, but the old pills worked perfect.. If you read many recent reviews, It seems that many people have found that this no longer works and I wonder if they have changed the formula.Like the others I am back to florstar. 1MUST HAVE!!!After much research, I learned that the stomach problems I have experienced for MUCH too long were most likely due to a case of Clostridium Difficile. The condition is caused by an extreme overgrowth of Clostridium bacteria in the lower intestine. This overgrowth is generally brought on by a lack of other naturally-occurring, beneficial bacteria in the intestines, which are necessary for normal bowel function. This lack can be caused by anything from a pre-existing illness to a microbial exposure to high stress, but it is usually the result of having taken antibiotics. Simply put, antibiotics kill bacteria no matter if that bacteria is "bad" or "good". There certainly are times in our lives when we may need to take antibiotics for one reason or another, so afterward, the intestines must be replenished with their normal level of beneficial bacteria. Oftentimes the intestines do this job on their own. Sometimes they don't, and Clostridium bacteria can over-produce. That is how the problem begins.As Clostridium Difficile flourishes, it produces toxins that are released through the digestive tract. If you think you may have a case of Clostridium Difficile, please do your own research to learn the best way to combat it, and be sure to consult your doctor. ;)To say the least, I have found Sacharomyces Boulardii to be a VERY "friendly" bacteria that is vital in the correction of Clostridium Difficile. I take one at the crack of dawn every morning (on an empty stomach is best) with a full glass of water along with my other regular probiotics (Vitacost 15 - 35) and my multivitamin. I try to avoid eating anything for at least an hour afterward, which helps ensure good absorption (avoiding stomach acid). I do try to take Sacharomyces Boulardii and my other regular probiotics anytime that I am on antibiotics. . .though they need to be taken a couple of hours beforehand or afterward to keep the antibiotics from killing them. But I ALWAYS take them for at least a couple of months beyond my having been on antibiotics. Also, Sacharomyces Boulardii is highly beneficial for other issues. . .even maintaining a clearer complexion! I will never be without it.P.S. To help keep it active for as long as possible, go ahead and store it in the refrigerator. ;) 5
