Great for getting and staying asleepDon't fall for some name brand vs generic crap. Valerian root is the same regardless which capsules you buy. I've been taking them for years for sleep aids and anxiety aids and they definitely help me more than anything else I've tried. Do yourself a favor if you have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep and buy these and some generic unisom (doxylamine succinate). Take as recommended on the box and wake up 8 hours later with no drowsy feeling and no worries of becoming "hooked" on them. One is a natural plant root that is non addictive, and the other is just a mild antihistamine that works better at helping people get to sleep. I've taken for years and stopped with no ill effects. I take as recommended and that was the end of my insomnia days. Now I go to bed around 8:30 most nights because I get to work around 4:30 AM. 5More dreams (At least for me)I have been taking this product every night for four months. I felt as though the first week produced no noticeable effect, but from then on things have been fairly consistent.I've noticed that I dream considerably more than I had prior to taking this supplement. I am no specialist in this field but if I recall correctly, more dreams means more time spent in REM cycle, the point in which one experiences highest quality of sleep.One caution I'd just like to throw out there, more dreams means more nightmares. I've had more nightmares the past four months than I can recall throughout my entire life prior to this. Luckily, even bad dreams are just dreams. 5Highly Recommend!I ve been on this vitamin for awhile. I buy it on amazon because it s cheaper and you get more! I recommend it for those who have anxiety. It isn t harsh on your body. I took myself off of prescription medication and now using Valerian Root. If you use the recommending dose, it works! 5It literally saved my lifeI got this bottle of 250 Valerian root gelcaps to use as an alternative to Xanax. I still take Xanax if a panic attack becomes unbearable, but this has severely reduced my use. The stuff is a godsend. Need to fall asleep? Valerian. Need to calm anxiety? Valerian. Super angry and want to calm down? Valerian. When I was going through my antidepressant and mood stabilizer transitions I would take a handful of the stuff whenever I felt suicidal or the need to self harm or break something. Because I knew you couldn't overdose on them, so I'd take em like a handful of popcorn, take a nap and wake up calm. That supplement literally saved my life. 5Insomnia, Better Sleep3/1/2018 - I have been experiencing bouts of insomnia for the past two years, lasting anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months with consecutive nights of lack of sleep (1-4 hours). I usually do fine on the weekends, but Sunday night through Thursday night are usually troublesome due to racing/random thoughts, not feeling tired or feeling anxious/jittery/uncomfortable. After finding out I was low in Vitamin D through a blood test, I started researching natural remedies to help with my sleep. I started with Vitamin D3 (7,000 iu) and Magnesium Chelated (400 mg) daily. My sleep improved but then insomnia returned after a week.I have been taking 2 capsules (1000 mg) Valerian Root an hour before bed for the past three nights. The first night I could definitely feel the effects, such as relaxation and calmness. It still took an hour to fall asleep but I slept 5.5 hours! The second night it took over an hour to fall asleep again, but I slept the whole night (6 hours)! The third night I took the same amount along with 5-HTP (200 mg) and was knocked out almost immediately, sleeping over 6 hours! I felt very rested this morning. I will continue to use this product, along with other supplements mentioned below.My current stacking method will be 1000 mg Valerian Root (for relaxation), 200 mg 5-HTP (for Serotonin), and 200 mg L-Theanine (for mental calmness). I still continue to take 7,000 iu Vitamin D3 and 400 mg Magnesium Chelated.P.S. - I don't mind the funky smell. It's not that bad and I really only care about getting rest. This product definitely works and I would recommend for anyone who is dealing with insomnia. 5Different people require different dosagesIf one or two capsules don't do it for you, try more! I started with two and it didn't work, I went up to three and still didn't do the trick so I now take four capsules every night before getting into bed and presto! Usually it takes 10-15 minutes to fall asleep. I often wake up 4 or 5 hours later and take just one more and I'm right back out. The best part is it doesn't leave your drowsy in the morning. I never used to have a problem sleeping, but menopause has caused severe insomnia for the last two years. I've tried a lot of things, but nothing worked until now. Love this stuff! 5Highly recommended for insomniacsI've been an insomniac for over a decade. You name it, I've tried it. From blackout shades, to a new bed, to full prescription meds, I still struggle to get a full night over eight hour sleep.While Ambien is a great prescription drug for sleep, I've built a tolerance to it that isn't healthy. My problem is my mind won't stop, and it keeps me up at night unless I take a full dose of Ambien and it still takes a couple of hours to fall asleep. I read about Valerian as a way to relax, and after taking it for three weeks, while monitoring my sleep time and quality with a FitBit Alta, I've seen a trend of improvements.Before Valerian, I was sleeping 4-6 hours a night. I was also taking 10mg of Ambien, sometimes 20mg. When I started Valerian I noticed the pills relaxed me but didn't make me sleepy like Benadryl does (the main problem with Benadryl for me is the hangover the next day). Valerian is almost like having your first beer, where it reduces your anxiety level, but it doesn't cause you to feel drunk. After adding it to my sleep routine, where I take two pills in the evening, I am now getting 6-8 hours of sleep a night which is great for my mind. I haven't felt this good in years and am keeping it in my evening routine.The only downside to Valerian is the stink that comes with the pills. 5GREAT FOR HIGH STRESS DOGS!i give this to my DOG to calm her nerves. she's a rescue and HIGHLY stressed by people. she's a BIG GIRL, so i give her HALF a capsule with her breakfast every morning. that's it. it helps make her a little more even keeled without zombie-ing her out. she still has energy and her puppy ways, and is a little more calm throughout the day. 5AmazingI am a RN who works night shift in the ER. Sleeping during the day has gotten very hard for me and I m constantly waking up throughout the day. Not to mention the night I m off, I m trying to get back on a normal schedule with my family as well. I literally never write reviews anywhere but I have to write one about this product. I have gotten the deepest sleep I have gotten in over two years. It does not make you drowsy it just makes you get a better quality of sleep once you actually fall asleep. The past few nights I ve taken it I have not woken up once. Just gotten a good restful sleep. Highly recommend! 5I will definitely be buying more of this stuffI have trouble sleeping, a lot of the time. More like trouble staying asleep, because I suffer from acute anxiety which I'm already on psychiatric medicine for. I started taking melatonin awhile ago, and it helped quite a bit, but I decided I needed something a with a little more kick in it to help me stay asleep because while melatonin is good for getting you to sleep, it's not necessarily the best for helping you STAY asleep. So I decided to try some of this Valerian Root stuff after reading a review on this page from a guy who said it saved his life. I'm not disappointed. I pop a handful of Valerian Root before bed along with some melatonin and I'm usually asleep all night long.I've also noticed that sometimes my dreams are a little more vivid and lucid since I've been taking this stuff. I haven't experienced any nightmares, just really vivid, wild dreams, usually right before I wake up. If that's a side effect of the Valerian Root, I don't know, but it's nice because I really like to dream. It definitely takes the edge off before bedtime, too, I know it's supposed to be good for anxiety, but I'll definitely be buying more of this stuff when I run out. It DOES smell pretty strange, I must add, I know some people complained about the smell. I wouldn't call it a terrible smell, but it's definitely an odor.I'd definitely recommend this if you have trouble sleeping, suffer from anxiety around bedtime and are already on psychiatric medicines for anxiety. It seems to work well with my medications. I can't say anything bad about it. It's good stuff and I'm glad I found it. I might try a different brand with a higher strength some time in the future if I can find one that has good enough reviews, but for now I'll stick with this one because it does its job really, really well. Before I started taking it I was always waking up in the middle of the night and I recently quit smoking and am on nicotine lozenges so that was no fun, but this stuff seems to help out a lot with that. I'd highly recommend this brand of Valerian Root. 5
